De Pier Recreatie

The completely renewed De Pier Recreatie in Uden is now called Sandberghe

‘With Sandberghe, we now have the company that fits this region.’

Camping at De Pier? That’s no longer possible. From now on, you can spend a weekend or a longer stay at the luxurious Sandberghe. Same location as before, on the edge of the Maashorst. But a completely different park. And therefore a different name.

Does he find it difficult to say goodbye to a name that had existed for 70 years? “No,” says owner Rems Verbossen firmly:

‘De Pier stood for traditional camping.’

"Pitching your tent or setting up your camper and that’s it. That’s no longer possible here. Eight years ago, as a company, we took a completely different path. We focused on families looking for peace, space, adventure, and luxury close to home. In the meantime, we have renovated everything: the layout, the roads, the buildings, the furniture, the greenery. Everything now breathes the Maashorst. The last thing we had to do was change the name.”

A reference to the largest drifting sand dunes in Europe

The new name was unveiled on Saturday: Sandberghe. The name is a nod to the largest drifting sand dunes in Europe, right next to the park: the Bedaf Dunes. The park is divided into an area with villas, an area with luxury lodge tents, the largest being 158 m², and the latest addition: the Heydehuizen. These are spacious wooden holiday homes, some elevated on stilts, with views over the heath, a wooden playground, and a sauna at the doorstep.

A place to get lost

The new direction the company is taking has consequences for the number of visitors. Previously, the company could accommodate around 600 guests at the same time, now it’s about 350. They pay more than before, with starting prices of €1,200 per week, but they also get more in return. More space, more peace, more luxury. A place to get lost, reads the new logo. Rems: “We mean that literally, as in getting lost in the surroundings. But also figuratively: getting lost in your mind. A place to discover, to slow down, to relax, and to meet …”

Glamorous camping on the edge of the Maashorst

Sandberghe is open all year round. The villas and Heyde houses can be heated. So far, the people who have already booked mainly come from the western part of the country, looking for ‘glamorous camping’ close to home and excited about this region: “Make no mistake: we live in a beautiful area. With Bedaf, Maashorst and the Peelrand Fault, where both children and adults can play and enjoy recreation to the fullest.”

‘With Sandberghe, we now have the company that truly fits this region.’
